Durathin vs Lumineers

There has been a lot of debate recently over which type of veneers patients should use when they want to  get a beautiful, "natural looking" smile. As this is an extremely important issue, we thought we should give you our thoughts on the subject, so you can make an informed decision.

Lumineers made their impact on the dental community several years ago as one of the first "prepless" veneers. Lumineers are a thin, porcelain based overlay that requires no shaving or grinding of existing tooth enamel prior to application, unlike traditional veneers. They are promoted as a permanently white smile that is pain-free, and as a solution for all types of existing dental problems - misaligned teeth, tooth discoloration, chipped teeth, etc.

Unfortunately, many discriminating patients discovered that Lumineers tended to be too bulky and chalky, leaving them with a smile that appeared "artificial" and felt uncomfortable within their mouth.

Durathin Veneers features several benefits that make them a better choice than Lumineers. They are extremely thin - ranging from .2 to .4mm on average, which drastically reduces irritation within the mouth once they have been applied. Durathin Veneers also achieve a more natural look because the porcelain color is built up layer-on-layer, instead of a one-time cosmetic pressing, as is done with Lumineers.  This allows the well-trained cosmetic dentist to block out areas of discoloration, while allowing the natural color and translucency of the patient's tooth to show through, resulting in a color that always looks great, and never looks fake. While both Lumineers and Durathin Veneers offer a pain-free solution to patients who seek to improve their smile, Durathin porcelain veneers are thinner, stronger and create a beautifully natural smile that will leave your friends and family wondering what you've done to look so great.
