Amalgam fillings are made from a composite metallic material that contains mercury, and do not belong in the mouth…
Amalgam fillings have been used in dentistry for over 100 years, however now with advancements in dental technology, newer and better materials are available that will not affect your health. Silver fillings can contain as much as 50% mercury which can be released due to temperature changes in the mouth, chewing or brushing. Amalgam fillings are also hazardous for the environment, and are banned in environmentally conscious countries such as Sweden and Norway.
We are not only a mercury-free dental practice, but we are committed to removing any mercury fillings in a way that is safe for both our patients and the environment.
If you wish to replace your old amalgam (silver) fillings with the safer, more visually appealing white (composite) fillings, Dr. Saylor may be able to help.
